The STARS System

Spiral Technology supported Raytheon and the FAA in the installation and testing of the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS). This work was performed at Raytheon and government facilities in Marlborough, MA, Eglin AFB, FL, and the FAA Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ. Spiral personnel played key roles in both the developmental and operational test and Evaluation of the STARS system, and were crucial to the successful completion of the STARS System Acceptance Test.

The REHOST System

Spiral Technology supported the development of an advanced air traffic control system for use by the joint services R-2508 Range Complex Control Board (CCB) for its R-2508 Central Coordinating Facility at the High Desert Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility and Space Positioning Optical Radar Tracking (SPORT) Mission Control Center at Edwards AFB, CA, and the Airspace Surveillance Center (ASC) at China Lake, CA. The REHOST system replaced the Mosaic-Tracking Direct Access Radar Channel (MDARC) system. The REHOST system is a certified FAA air traffic control system in use daily in the R-2508 Complex. The REHOST system development and implementation is characterized as follows:

• Airspace management system configured from 100% Commercial-Of-The-Shelf components integrated on-site
• System certified by FAA for approach and control within R-2508 Range Complex
• Spiral Technology performed the site implementation planning and system integration into the High Desert TRACON, SPORT, and ASC facilities
• Spiral Technology planned and conducted on-site integration testing instead of Factory Acceptance Testing
• Spiral Technology performed comprehensive Software Test Descriptions, Hardware Test Descriptions, Software Test Plans
• Spiral Technology developed and implemented a hybrid DoD/FAA Configuration Management Plan and Configuration Control Board
• Spiral Technology planned and conducted Formal Qualification Testing
• Spiral Technology assisted the CCB with Functional Configuration Audit, Physical Configuration Audit, and Operational Test & Evaluation
• Spiral Technology developed a tailored MIL-STD-498 compliant development process
• Spiral Technology reviewed and monitored the development process with a tailored MIL-STD-1521B compliant process
• Spiral Technology planned, developed, and conducted Operations and Maintenance and user training
